On February 22, the project “Window Exhibition” and the ©THE #BYOB ARTISTS CHAPTERS had already ended with the participation of 12 artists who shared their works with us. But let's remember how it all began and what our inspiration was. At this event we will introduce you to the artist Lefteris Yakoumakis and the ideas and collaborations that emerged from our shared love for art.

In November 2019, the house of Elephant Design had just welcomed its residents. The large empty wall was there waiting for the artist who would capture the whole philosophy of the name and the idea related to the real characteristics as well as the symbolic values of the charming mammal.

*Lefteris’s notes:
The wall is twelve square meters. Some people think of the Hindu god Ganesh, I think of Rubens. I, of course, am not Rubens, but I can steal from him. This is how I start setting up the representation of an allegory.
"Oh yes! "To destroy is to create," said Kerry James M.
Ganesh, the patron saint of space, is there. In order to create, you have to destroy. So, the goddess Kali will stand in front of him. I will add a dragon to run through the image as the gap runs through the whole, to add rhythm. Also, a small elephant, to remind who commissioned the mural. What do they all do together? They dance, they create chaos, they destroy to create. The de-symbolization of the mural depictions I am attempting here is of minor importance. They are figments of my imagination as I hover on a ladder with brushes in my hand…

Our collaboration and our creative conversations with Lefteris did not end with the dismantling of the mural, but they went a little further… and so the "flip book" emerged.
A small book with many allegorical pictures.
A book without words, only art. Art about creation, nature, friendship, architecture and finally about the real existence of elephants, about the reality of our name.

NOMINATED FOR BEST SHORT DOCUMENTARY of the Hellenic Film Academy
The film had its world premiere at the Independent Days International Film Festival in Karlsruhe and its Greek premiere at the 15th DocFest in Chalkida. It was also screened at the 26th Canberra Short Film Festival in Australia.

*Summary:
The documentary follows Lefteris Giakoumakis, an artist of the city, on his own personal journey. Lefteris lives in Athens, paints on its garbage and wants to free himself both from the city and from what haunts him personally. As the cycle of painting in the trash comes to an end, Lefteris looks for other ways to redeem himself.
