Roots
June 12 2021 - July 5 2021
“A house you can rebuild; a bridge you can restring; a washed-out road you can fill in. But there is nothing you can do about a tree but mourn” (( Louise Dickinson Rich, We took to the Woods, 1942 )).
If Eva Soldatos had read Louise Dickinson Rich’s quote, she would have agreed with her. Partially though.
Because Eva doesn’t just mourn for all the trees we have lost. Spreading her feelings onto earth is not enough for her. She does more than that. She talks about it. She paints. She lets drips of paint fall on the canvas and they replace her tears and sorrow.
After all, she has many ways of expressing herself. And each one is unique and special and at the same time a piece of the same puzzle. A world created by the artist herself.
Important part of this universe are -also- the roots. The roots are trees’ feet and our feet; an extension of our body. Just like the ground is an extension of our heart, the leaves an extension of our fingers and the sea an extension of our eyes. And whatever is lost from the earth, we lose a part of ourselves too. Or else, to use Eva Soldatos’s words:
OUR PLANET IS BLEEDING
“Our planet is bleeding, and its heart suffers from continuous palpitations. Every summer, the Earth’s surface is being burned by wildfires. Nevertheless, although it realises that it is being lost, … it trusts humble people…convinced that they will recycle every little crumb of its soul!”
