Hariton Bekiaris

Sculptor + artist

Hariton Bekiaris was born in Athens in 1980.
He studied sculpture at Camberwell College of Arts, London and at Canterbury Christ Church University (BA Hons, First Class), UK. In 2006, he received his Master’s degree in Sculpture from the same university. In 2011 he started illustrating for “Mikri Arktos” of IANOS Bookstores. In 2012 he illustrated Yiannis Efthimiadis’ poetry collection “27, or the falling man” published by “Mikri Arktos” publications. The original drawings were exhibited at the gallery “Genesis” alongside the book presentation.
“Empathy”, his first solo exhibition, took place in 2012 at the “Genesis” gallery and was curated by Iris Kritikou. This exhibition included works of art in ink and gouache, where the viewers could trace Hariton’s vast influences, such as his favorite science fiction books and Aristotle, his love for animals and adventures. In 2013 he was the chief designer of “Kyttaro games” for the game “Droidscape Basilica” for iOS.
Since 2014 he has been teaching as an assistant at the sculpture workshop at the American College of Greece, Deree. Also, he has worked as a concept designer in short films and commercials for production companies and advertising agencies. In 2018 he became the co-founder of the workshop ‘Study’ [Σπουδή] and has been teaching there ever since.
Hariton Bekiaris has taken part in group exhibitions in Greece and abroad, such as the Sculpture exhibition at the premises of Canterbury Cathedral in the UK (2006), “The Last Supper” at the “Ersi’s gallery” (2009), “A Saturday in Athens” at the gallery “Genesis” (2012) and so many more.  His last exhibition took place in February 2020 at IANOS art gallery. There he presented 16 works of art created for the illustration of “The clouds of sorrow” by Paraskevas Karasoulos.
Also, three monuments around Athens have been commissioned and has collaborated with publishers and magazines such as Potamos, Stereoma, Vimagazino, Lifo., while his works can be found in private and public collections.
Hariton Bekiaris’s art falls between the spectrum of reality and dream, while his hybrid creatures exist both on earth and sky, both in darkness and light and become creators of their own fiction.
