Christina Gkiza

Christina Gkiza is a self-taught visual artist based in Athens.

Born in 1988, she began painting in 2013 during her stay in Wales. Since then, her practice has developed through a continuous exploration of the urban environment, its structures, textures, and the layered narratives embedded within it. Her work has been presented in group exhibitions as well as in three solo shows. She is a member of the Chamber of Fine Arts of Greece.

Working across painting and digital collage, Christina employs a multidisciplinary approach that combines acrylics, ink, paper, fabrics, and digital processes. Her compositions are characterised by a dynamic interplay of colour, texture, and form, where typography, circular motifs, and abstract elements emerge as recurring visual languages. Through the layering of both physical and digital materials, her work constructs fragmented yet cohesive visual fields that invite close observation.

 

Drawing from everyday urban experience and her travels, she transforms visual stimuli into works that function as meditative spaces-sites where personal expression intersects with collective imagery. Her practice engages the viewer in a process of interpretation, evoking emotional and psychological responses while reflecting on the complexity of contemporary urban life.
